Full-facility campground, including 139 campsites, is located in a wooded area within easy bicycling or walking distance of the beach. A self-guided nature trail takes hikers through a maritime hammock on ancient sand dunes.

Anastasia Watersports rents canoes, sailboards, paddleboats and kayaks. Lessons on various water sports are available.

Fish species found in the lake include: blue catfish, channel catfish, hybrid striped bass, largemouth bass and redfish (red drum), with the latter being the most prevalent. Facilities include restrooms with and without showers; a playground area; a summertime 40' x 110' swimming pool; a 10' x 30' wading pool for children; a game area with a sand volleyball pit; a horseshoe pit; a basketball goal; a large open area for baseball, soccer, football, and kite flying.

Lake Houston has been stocked with species of fish intended to improve the utility of the reservoir for recreational fishing. Fish present in Lake Houston include catfish, largemouth bass, white crappie, and bluegill.

Boating and fishing are both popular recreational uses of the lake. At the northern end of the lake, Lake Houston Park also has facilities for camping and hiking.
